Eastwood Under 14s and 15s are State Champions!
The 2017 Under 14 side enjoyed an extraordinary campaign that included:
Scoring 253 points for and 20 against – conceding only 3 tries;
Achieving the selection of 11 players – an unprecedented one-third of the squad in the 2017 Sydney representative team;
Gaining multiple accolades as to their style of play and presentation from those lucky enough to watch them perform at Orange.
The genesis of the success emerged from the impressive and exceptional coaching of Scott Podmore, Matthew Campton and Andrew Leeds. Those pre-eminent skill masters developed ground-breaking patterns of play and shape, both in attack and defence, for the boys that was the subject of widespread praise and admiration expressed by opposing coaches, administrators, referees and parents – such that a number of spectators from the Central West region of NSW made the effort to get to watch this squad play. The tone of the compliments was such as “I have never seen boys of 14 years with such skill and precision, where each player knows and understands their roles on the park.”
The management of the Central West tour by Jo Usher and Dion Ngatai was both seamless and superb. The Eastwood Under 14’s State Cup campaign at Orange was a stellar performance that resonated throughout the age group. The playing squad and its management reflected well on the administration of the Junior representative rugby program in Eastwood, and should create a blueprint for the future success of the representative teams playing from the district.

The Eastwood U15s are back to back State Champions after defeating Sydney Uni in a nail biter 24-22 in the Grand Final. They defeated Syd Uni last year in the U14s. The team went through to the Grand Final having conceded only 15 points in their 5 matches up to then. A fantastic achievement.
