RIP Bob Shield

Updated: Jul 21, 2022

We've lost one of the true Legends of Eastwood Rugby. Life Member Bob Shield has gone

Its a word tossed around pretty liberally in sports clubs but there is little doubt that at the Woods, Bob Shield who passed away this week, was a genuine legend of the Club.

Bob came to us in the 90's after a highly successful stint at the old Epping Juniors and in short order became Club President -a position he held for the best part of a decade. That decade just quietly was the best the Club had ever had and set us up for the highly successful years that followed - all in all the most successful years in the Club's long history. In gratitude, on his retirement from active participation, the Club made Bob a Life Member.

Off the field he was a devoted family man and it was often said he treated players at the Club like family; the outpouring of tributes this week from old players of that era is testimony to the high regard he was held in. On Saturday before 1st Grade, President Brett Papworth will say a few words in Bob's memory before we observe a moment's silence.

Bob's funeral is tomorrow in his home town of Dungog. Many old Woodies will be there but if you can't make it, spend a moment or two quietly thanking Bob for all he did for our Club.

Truly one of Those Magnificent Men

Bob's funeral Service to be held in Christ Church Anglican Church, Dungog FRIDAY (22.7.2022) at 1.30pm.
