RIP 1st Grade coach Brendan Donohue

Brendan who coached the Woods 1st grade in 1979 has died after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Brendan and his mate Mark Verrender coached 1st grade in 1979 after coaching 2nd Grade the year before. In 1979 they had an ordinary start to the season but in the end the team just missed the semis. Some good judges recall that it was a real lost opportunity for the Club's first 1st grade premiership. (which only took another 20 years!)

Brendan went to have a very successful career in the construction industry and continued his coaching career at a few other clubs - notable Uni of NSW. He's mentioned in a few articles https://www.smh.com.au/national/mates-came-to-rescue-not-rugby-20070510-gdq3v1.html that show what kind of a person he was

In later years he became very active in AFL with the St George AFC but still maintained an interest in Rugby.

In another one of those small world twists you find in sport, our Operations Manager Craig Hawkings coached Brendan's son Liam at Souths a few years back and he also coached with Mark Verrender at Burraneer and Souths. Turns out Brendan was also the team manager of that team ..small world
